Pong - Bubble City

This is the latest from Pong, Austin born and bred dream band. Made of members of Ed Hall and other Austin classics, these guys have gotten the sound down to a science. I got this from a friend a little bit ago and listened a few times. Thought it was good but didn't catch me too quick. Then, one day, I was researching in UT's Geology Library with my iPod playing Pong in the background. Something about the subliminality of it got the music deep in my cerebral cortex and I just had to say, "This band rocks!"
Y'all have to check these guys out. From their seemingly linked "Interpol" and "Cherokee" (what did happen to the Cherokee?) to "Click OK", you can't go wrong with truly interesting poppy beats and guitars that, if not making you want to dance, at least make you want to groove in your seat as you drive down the road. "After School Special" invokes feelings of the magic and beauty of youth and young love. Finishing up the album is the classic rocking "Finally, Some Good Music", which takes you to high school in the late 70's/early 80's and is anthemic and and strange mix of Steve Miller and Kiss, with stranger lyrics (leaving out the pompetous of love, naturally). It seems as if the songs create an overall story, as many of them could be refereces to the song prior in some way. "Pong songs are often like Dali paintings, at once
organized, inviting, and scary."

It makes me think from reading your blog spot that you must have inherited some of those mushy, sensitive, loving, caring, artsy genes from your mother. The things you wrote about Lupita your dog made ME cry.
